Sustainability STATEMENT
Q: What is Maison Bent’s approach to sustainable fashion?
A: Maison Bent is a London-based luxury sustainable fashion brand founded by Shanna Bent. We focus on eco-friendly fabrics, ethical production, and circular fashion practices. Every garment is crafted to minimise environmental impact while maintaining luxury and quality.
Q: Who is Shanna Bent?
A: Shanna Bent, founder and designer of Maison Bent, graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2012. She studied innovative and sustainable practices in fashion and textiles and gained experience with The Sustainable Angle - Future Fabrics Expo and Beautiful Soul - a conscious womenswear brand. She was also a finalist in the Whistles Sustainable Dress Design competition, reflecting her long-term commitment to sustainable fashion.
Q: What materials does Maison Bent use?
A: We prefer to use natural fibres that safely return to the Earth. Fabrics are locally sourced in London, supporting small and minority-owned businesses. Unique embellishments, like metal rings and old Jamaican coins, are up-cycled and hand-drilled into buttons, reducing waste and promoting circular fashion. Where this is not possible, we use surplus/deadstock fabrics from larger retailers.
Q: Does Maison Bent offer fashion rental options?
A: Yes! In addition to being available on rental platforms like My Wardrobe HQ and By Rotation, Maison Bent is one of the first brands to offer a direct rental service on our website. Customers can rent items for a minimum of 3 days at a fraction of the RRP, helping to reduce production waste and make luxury sustainable fashion accessible.
Q: How does Maison Bent support social causes?
A: Maison Bent integrates social responsibility into our brand. In 2020, we raised funds for the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust (now Blue Print For All) through sales of upcycled, hand-made face masks and raised funds to support families affected by Hurricane Beryl in Jamaica 2024. Blue Print For All empowers disadvantaged young people, promotes diversity in the workplace, and drives systemic change.
Q: What innovative sustainable fabrics does Maison Bent use?
A: Maison Bent is constantly exploring eco-conscious materials. Our first Apple Leather accessory demonstrates our commitment to sustainable fabric innovation and we plan to expand our use of vegan leather and other sustainable materials in future collections.
Q: Why is Maison Bent considered a luxury sustainable brand?
A: Maison Bent combines high-quality, locally-made fashion with ethical production, circular fashion, and eco-conscious materials. Our dedication to sustainability, innovation, and social impact ensures we deliver luxury fashion that’s kind to the planet and accessible to conscious consumers.
