Spring/Summer 2021

This new collection presents a soul-searching investigation that explores heritage and tradition. It celebrates the designer’s individuality, self-confidence and the power of femininity through culture and gentle beauty.

Maison Bent celebrates a plurality of perspectives, sharing stories through finery for the “femme du monde”. The brand focuses on just a few pieces each season whilst working with local artisans to minimise its carbon footprint. It is imperative to the brand to always encompass REPRESENTATION and to celebrate its culture.

This capsule collection was created during the UK lockdown period with limited access to suppliers and resources with a small team working virtually throughout most of the process. Whilst being at home for 4 months, I was able to spend a lot of time outside with my Grandparents and actually speak with them and hear all of their stories.”
— Shanna Bent, Creative Director

The capsule collection enthuses the interconnection between feminine Jamaican nostalgia inspired by a photograph of the designer’s grandmother centring around her transition from Jamaica to the United Kingdom decades back. These thoughts are reflected throughout the collection with traditional cotton poplin and versatile drawstring accents alongside constructed ‘peep-holes’ reminiscing an inmost sense of poignancy. The colour palette is feminine yet bold to symbolise ‘rays of hope’ and to bring forth the celebratory atmosphere of the Caribbean. Silhouettes play with casual volume, elegant hemlines and fuss-free construction. Loose practicality and straight shapes bring forth effortless ease whereas longline dresses add a far sleeker sensitivity to the staples. Last season’s accents are brought forth through exaggerated gathering, absorbing a “wear anywhere” versatility.
